Geometry and Measurement in Core 1

We live in a three-dimensional world. Every object you can see or touch has three dimensions that can be measured: length, width and height. The room you are sitting in can be described by these three dimensions. The monitor you're looking at has these three dimensions. Even you can be described by these three dimensions. In fact, the clothes you are wearing were made specifically for a person with your dimensions.

All of Core 1 explored geometry through art & architecture with Julianna this week. The Bigs continued this study during math. Through the mystery boxes the Bigs brought in for homework, we have been learning mathematical vocabulary to describe the shapes of what we see. We are learning about faces, points (vertices) and edges. On this day, the children studied wooden geoblocks, talking about what they noticed. Then, they created Polyhedra, Prisms and Pyramids using toothpicks and marshmallows. Next week, we will continue to deepen our knowledge of geometry and 3D Shapes.
