What's all "The Drama" about in Core 1?

QUIET ON THE SET!!!

This trimester, the students receive a drama class each week from the fabulous Kristy Pace. The children are learning skills such as improvisation, blocking, projection and public speaking. We are making a movie based on the book Foursome the Spider by Larry Nestor. Release date information and screening location to follow!

Below are photos of the children at work, and Kristy’s notes on how the day went:

This week we learned why Kristy is NOT a location scout for any major motion pictures! But in the process we were also able to gain some really good practice for filming and work out the kinks of what should be a very smooth transition into the rest of our session.

We got some cute footage for the kids to review, but the traffic sounds are definitely too loud for a good film. So we will begin our real filming this week after letting the students review last week’s work and warm-up.

Last week Core 1 classes ROCKED, we were on time, we got great footage for the beginning of our movie and we opened and closed with review of our work which is infinitely valuable. This week we will be exploring character more deeply. Each bug group will have to really think about how they would feel about a spider moving in? What could that mean? And the golfers will need to really show a lot of compassion and concern for this poor little bug. I'm excited to see what they come up with.

Core 1 began their verbal character explorations today, starting to think about how their characters feel about events in the nature center. We got tons of fun stuff for our film and will continue building on our physical and verbal skills in character next week, as we introduce more about storyline. The focus will be looking at what stage of the story we are in and which parts are still left; beginning, middle and end. We'll film Foursome and his friends arriving at the center and beginning to play golf through the habitats.
